Bay Creek Pace of Play

Posted in Bay Creek Golf on April 26th, 2009 by Mark Wesolek – Be the first to comment

The weather is heating up.  The course is greening up.  The flowers, trees and shrubs are starting to bloom.  And, the golfers are showing up!

While the rounds are increasing on these very challenging Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus Signature courses, the pace of play is actually pretty quick.  Through the month to date, pace is averaging 4 hours, 23 minutes.  Sure, there are the occasional rounds that approach 5 hours.  However, for the most part, you can enjoy a very reasonable pace on two challenging courses that offer some of the most stunning views you’ll find anywhere.

What are your pace expectations for a challenging course?

Bay Creek Demo Day

Are you looking to add that elusive 10 extra yards to your drives?  Are missing too many putts?  How many greens are you hitting in regulation?  If you are looking to try the latest equipment to see if you can benefit from the newest technology, you’ll want to attend the Bay Creek Demo Day on Saturday, May 2.

Representatives from Callaway and Nike will be on hand to help match their products to your body type and swing characteristics in order to determine the best club match for you.  You’ll be amazed at what a difference it makes to get the right clubs, with the correct shafts, in your hands.

The event will take place form 10-3.  If you can’t make it, don’t despair.  We have plenty of demo clubs in the shop for you to hit and our professional staff will make sure you are properly fit.

Have some fun.  Hit some new clubs.  And maybe even sneak in a round!

Building Together at Bay Creek

The wildlife is so abundant at Bay Creek that they find homes everywhere.

Here is  a mother Peregrine Falcon who built a nest for her family on top of an excavating dozer.  You can see the mother falcon and her chicks as you walk to the beach.  She is very protective and scares away any turkey buzzards that get too close.

There is so much to explore and share with your children here at Bay Creek.

Cape Charles – Blessing of the Fleet

Posted in Cape Charles News on April 6th, 2009 by Jonathan Hall – Be the first to comment

April 3, 2009

What a marvelous sunny day to have the four ministers and priests from the various Cape Charles churches come to the Cape Charles marina to bless the fleet of the local watermen.  The US Coast Guard also participated with a color guard and singing of the National Anthem.

The Coast Guard also pulled a special wreath around the harbor as memorial to the watermen lost at sea.  Bay Creek is located in the heart of the eastern shore fishing industry and after the blessing, many watermen, local fire departments and merchants had set up tents to sell their gifts from the seas:  hard shell crabs, oysters, crab cakes, clams, chowder and fish – all prepared in eastern shore style – delicious.

Live music was provided and various cold beverages were offered until late night.

Headlines: Then & Now

Newspaper circulation and TV news grow customers with sensational story lines: people losing their jobs, plants closing, murders, natural disasters – not how many are hired, what new businesses opened or feel good stories.  Compare today’s news with the news from the early 70’s and early 80’s?  Here are those headlines: gas rationing, spiking energy prices, 21% mortgage rates, average house price falls 12% oil embargo, gas rationing, wage freezes at major businesses, 10% unemployment, double digit inflation and Chrysler loans guaranteed by US government.

Good new today is – Entrepreneurs are developing new businesses every day. Businesses are adjusting their business models and products – I just heard of an RV upholstery company that has taken stock and is now producing handbags from the fabrics.  Interest rates are at the lowest they have ever been – dipping into the low 5%.  Real estate is selling, not as quickly as before, but the value of real estate is still there.  As the American population ages, they are wanting to play more, enjoy life more, have more fun – thus they continue to investigate resort real estate. It is not an investment; rather resort real estate is a lifestyle choice.
